(Per l’italiano, vedi sotto) A team of primary and secondary pupils from P5ENA, P5ENB, S1ENA, S2ENA and S2ENB had the unique opportunity to get a taste of what scientific research is about by reviewing manuscripts for the online scientific journal Frontiers for Young Minds and providing their feedback and input on how to improve them to the editorial board.

With the help of their teachers as well as scientific mentors from the Portuguese Semester of the Joint Research Center, the children collaborated during the last few months to review a number of scientific papers, including:

• “Powering Life in the water: phytoplankton in the San Francisco Estuary”
• “How Climate Change Is Affecting Nature in the San Francisco Estuary and What We Can Do About It”
• “Where the young fish are: How we monitor young fish and their habitat”
• “Conservation planning: creating the perfect home for ducks”
• “Can plants be engineers?”
• “Black Sea jellyfish: shocking invaders of Suisun Marsh”

By working together these young minds were brought into the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math subjects) and scientific research in the most exciting and proactive way.

Giovani redattori e redattrici per una rivista scientifica internazionale online!

Un gruppo di studenti e studentesse della scuola secondaria di primo grado di P5ENA, P5ENB, S1ENA, S2ENA e S2ENB ha avuto l’opportunità unica di entrare in contatto con la ricerca scientifica, rivedendo i manoscritti per la rivista scientifica online Frontiers for Young Minds, e fornendo al comitato editoriale opinioni e consigli su come migliorarli.

Con l’aiuto delle loro insegnanti e dei mentori scientifici del semestre portoghese del CCR, le ragazze e i ragazzi hanno collaborato negli ultimi mesi alla revisione di una serie di articoli scientifici, tra cui:

• “Powering Life in the water: phytoplankton in the San Francisco Estuary” (Alimentare la vita nell’acqua: fitoplancton nell’estuario di San Francisco)
• “How Climate Change Is Affecting Nature in the San Francisco Estuary and What We Can Do About It” (Come il cambiamento climatico sta influenzando la natura nell’estuario di San Francisco e cosa possiamo fare al riguardo)
• “Where the young fish are: How we monitor young fish and their habitat” (Dove sono i pesci giovani: Come monitoriamo i pesci giovani e il loro habitat)
• “Conservation planning: creating the perfect home for ducks” (Pianificazione della conservazione: creare la casa perfetta per le anatre)
• “Can plants be engineers?” (Le piante possono essere ingegneri)
• “Black Sea jellyfish: shocking invaders of Suisun Marsh (Meduse del Mar Nero: scioccanti invasori della palude Suisun)”

Grazie al lavoro di squadra, queste giovani menti sono state introdotte nel mondo dello STEM (gli studi di Scienza, Tecnologia, Ingegneria e Matematica) e della ricerca scientifica nel modo più eccitante e proattivo.
